Sage Pastel Payroll query - Additional Tax

The company I work started using Pastel Payroll last month. Originally we struggled entering voluntary PAYE transactions, but this was resolved by using codes 8005 and 8500. A negative value of the tax was entered under 8500 and this allowed a net salary of 0, allowing us to proceed.

After updating the pay period however, I noticed that the usual tax amount does not appear under 8001, but the accumulated voluntary PAYE. If I follow last month's procedure - tax under 8005 and negative tax under 8500 - I can't proceed, because the net salary is in the negative. I thought of overriding, but I don't know what problems this can cause.

Perhaps you should be using code 8005 under the Deduction Tab rather than in the Default Tab. You will, however, have to remember to do this each month.

Not too sure what problems may be caused by using the 8500 code as that is "Sundry Deductions - non Taxable".
