[Question] Pastel Xpress 14 Startup Email problem with Windows 8 with Outlook 2013

    Hi,

I just upgraded to Windows 8 Pro 64bit with Office 2013. Everything except Pastel is behaving and the helpdesk is unable to assist. Perhaps someone here has experienced this problem and resolved it.

I was running Xpress 11 on my Windows 7 PC. Emailing statements was fine. I installed on my new Windows 8 Pro 64bit PC with Office 2013 and now whenever I try to email a statement, I am prompted with: "Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfil the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client".

Pastel would not even answer my question as to whether the problem was with Windows or Pastel, so I bought Xpress 14 and the problem persists. The helpdesk was unable to assist, and I have ensured it is the default mail handler. I am only posting in desperation as I have been unable to resolve after trawling for solutions.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Simon,

    There is a solution.

On your Pastel disk, browse to the folder Util/Outlook 64-bit and read the instructions in the text file there. It should be self-explanatory.

      Woohoo.

Thanks for your help Neville, you hit the nail on the head. Much appreciated. It is surprising the helpdesk were unaware of this.

        Hi Neville,

I have Pastel Xpress V12 and Outlook 2013 on Windows 8.1 64 Bit and seem to be having the same problem. "Either there is no default mail client of the current mail client cannot fulfil the messaging request. Please run Microsoft outlook and set it as the default mail client" I have gone into Control Panel Default Programs and Outlook is set as the default. I have ticket the box in outlook as well ensuring it is the default yet I still got this error. I followed your steps above with my Pastel disk and it seems to have removed the error message however the invoices are still not emailing . . .nothing appears in my outbox or sent items? How do I know if this has resolved my problem or created a new one?

          Hi Samantha,

If your PC is a 64-bit machine, make sure that your Outlook 2013 is also 64-bit compatable and not the 32-bit version.

Perhaps we need to schedule a TeamViewer session so that I can see exactly what you are doing.

What error message are you getting?
If you are running 64 bit outlook (most likely) you may have to swap out the newmail.dll to get the older versions of Pastel to work. Browse your installation cd, go to the Util folder and open the Outlook 64-bit folder. Read the text file that explains where to copy the newmail.dll from and to, and how to re-register the dll.

Hi Kevin. My new computer does not have a slot for CDs or DVD s. I eventually managed to download the old Xpress from the internet. I have browsed my downloaded version and there is no Util folder. Please can you help me again? Many thanks.

Hi all. I have just spent hours trying to get Pastel (payroll and accounting) to recognise Thunderbird as the default email. It has been working without a hitch for years and all of a sudden I experienced this hassle. I tried all kinds of things and eventually decided to do a complete delete and clean re-install of Thunderbird. That is when I discovered that I had (somehow) updated Thunderbird to a 64 bit version. I did not even know that they had a 64 bit version!

I remembered that earlier on the forum mention had been made about Pastel not working with the 64 bit version of Outlook so I installed an older version of Thunderbird that I knew was 32 bit.

                              Problem solved!

I thought that I would share this in case anyone else ends up pulling their hair out over this one.
