    Vat on Cleaning Expenses

    Hi there

When SARS says that you can claim VAT on Cleaning expenses, can anyone please be more specific as to the exact cleaning expenses they mean.

Can you claim back VAT on Cleaning detergents, toiletries, etc bought at a supermarket which are Vat Registered?

    OR

Do they mean, for instance, if you have your carpets cleaned and are charged VAT then you can claim that back?

    Hi Usha

You can claim Vat in both cases. If you purchase detergents check the invoice for the vat component and include this in your input vat. If a company has provided you with a service [Cleaning carpets]. and they have charged you vat, you can also claim this vat. In the second case insist on a proper vat Invoice if the the amount is more than R3,000. If the amount is between R50 and R3,000 and abridged tax invoice will suffice.

Thanks so much Elijah. I was very confused because some people say you can't claim on detergents etc and some say you can..but I am very sure you can. Thanks again.
