    UIF Deductions for Foreign employees with Permanent Residence Status

    Hi All

    Does any-one know What are the rules regarding UIF deductions for foreign employees in RSA.

    Posts 2 & 3 in this thread on claiming UIF gives an insight into the mess when it comes to UIF and foreign employees.

    Unless the UIF Act has been changed since, employers are obliged to deduct UIF, and the foreign employee can't claim benefits.
    Participation is voluntary.

      Dave has got it right. Foreigners have to contribute but cannot claim.

        I beg to differ. I am a foreigner with a Permanent Residence since 15 years. I contributed UIF and when retrenchment time came I could claim UIF too.
        Ok, that was abvout 7-8 years ago and might have changed, but it would be unfair.

          That's useful feedback, Marc. And this was without presenting an SA bar coded ID?

          There seems little doubt people without an SA barcoded ID are being turned away in current times. It would be interesting to clearly establish this has not always been the case.

          And yes, I think it's pretty plain that the current situation is unfair. Grossly unfair.

            A permanent resident of course has an ID book too.
