Good luck for the impending diesel shortage. One of my customers in the industry forwarded this to me today. He recieved it this morning.

As industry supply challenges continue, we have been advised that the discharge of consignment at Durban Harbour is being aggravated due to pipeline damage at IVT. Given this, intermittent challenges extending over the next two weeks, are expected to occur in maintaining the Durban-Johannesburg pipeline.

Further, Natref has blended an off-spec batch on Diesel, restricting the ability to inject supply into the Northern market, negatively depressing this area. Until such time as this blend has been rectified all upliftment by road and rail has been terminated causing an immediate disruption of product, extending into Botswana.

Together with a 5 day loss in pipeline production capacity, these new challenges have resulted in a shortage of Diesel and Mogas for all industry players in the Inland market. Presently, while our competitors have been hardest hit, we expect this to spill over into our network, as demand increases.

In an effort to alleviate the situation, the Department of Energy has called for an emergency meeting between industry stakeholders and all alternatives are being considered to overcome these challenges, in the shortest possible timeframe.

To support our Inland network, we have deployed 50 trucks to bridge fuel from various costal terminals. In addition, rationing is being considered and will be instituted as the situation calls for.

While these challenges are outside of our immediate control, please rest assured that we are working closely with our Industry Partners to manage the situation as best as possible. We will continue to monitor the situation very closely and keep you abreast of any updates.

Kind Regards
