A typical electrical installation in SA ... nowadays its difficult to separate electrical installations from alarm circuit and CCTV ... they all just as crappy.

It would cool (and educational to some I am sure) to see an "after" photo(s) once you have fixed this.

    Hi Dave

That was the plan, however, the commissioning deposit was not paid as promised, so we haven't been back there.

    *edited*

Maybe our terms and conditions for COC jobs might be helpful to some.
Note: We do not invoice any estate agents or attorneys.

Terms and conditions for Compliance Certificates ( COC's )

We work on a strictly cash basis. 60% of quoted amount up front. Balance ( 40% ) on
completion of work and payable prior to the original COC being delivered.

The issuing of a COC is no guarantee that any electrical part will not fail or become faulty
    in the future.

A COC does not cover the condition of any appliance, whether fixed appliance or not, but
does cover the circuits to such appliances. Geysers, stoves, air conditioners, ceiling fans,
lights, gate motors, alarms, pool pumps, jacuzzi's etc. are all appliances and are not covered.

This quote includes the circuitry seen by ourselves on the day of inspection and testing.
We do not quote to remove any appliances or illegally wired circuits. We quote to make
    such circuits compliant.

Any illegal wiring or appliances removed by ourselves has been done at the request of the
owner. The responsibility for any discrepancies regarding such appliances later thus rests
entirely with the owner / lessor.

Our quote includes replacing faulty plugs and switches etc. with basic components. Should
designer plugs, light switches or any other part be requested, they will be charged for extra.

Our inspection and testing fee is payable irrespective of whether our quote is accepted or not
    and will be invoiced for.

Proof of payment of the 60% commissioning fee will be regarded as quote acceptance.

It is because of the above terms and conditions that we are not owed a cent for any work that we have done.

    Peace out ... Derek.

Something to note ... really crappy untidy workmanship doesnt make the installation non compliant.

These pics do display non compliant components.

it would be interesting to see a list with relevant non compliance ... as per the code.

That wiring in the enclosure is very strange... the original steel conduits were correctly made off then they've glanded the flat twin cable entries and they've used wide range of relatively expensive Ideal type connectors then if just went pear shaped when they started using 0.5mm stranded wiring by the looks of it and left the finished result looking like a rats nest.... Those cables literally lashed around the wooden post I've got absolutely no idea what went on there.
