    Is Telkom throttling bandwidth?

Telkom generously upped or monthly capping to 8gigs and I downloaded several movies (torrents), untill about two weeks ago.
Now, although there are over 100 seeds, I cannot download faster than about 800 BYTES!!!! per second.
Has Telkom throttled the bandwidth for torrent downloads? Anyone else notice this?

Downloading during business hours? Torrents have always been throttled during business hours.

I'm not sure whether their throttling is dynamic - it may adjust to your usage and the current load on their infrastructure.

Well I used to get the full 384kB/s even during 'office hours' but now it is slow at ALL times, night and day!
I tried changing the port but still no dice. I also switched off the firewall in case that was blocking the port - nana.

I use Vuze as the P2P client. I am only D/L one torrent at a time. It has 124 seeds but it nakes no difference - VERY slow.

An easy test would be to ftp upload a gig of data to some non P2P server and check your speed, download it and check your speed. It wouldn't surprise me that Telkom would throttle sorry "shape" P2P data, they know full well that are all sharing all sorts of interesting stuff...

I download torrents all the time and the speeds vary tremendously.

I know Telkom does daily/weekly throttling based on usage for their uncapped product (fair use BS). did you rape over 4-5 gigs in a week? This may not apply to you of course.

Hooray it works again. It took about a half hour for Vuze to 'see' the new port. After that, the NAT tewst said both i/c and o/g ports were 'ok' and away we went.
Sorry, Telkom, you are not to blame *THIS TIME*

Yeah, Telkon do throttle certain traffic protocols. Check out the cybersmart night rider packages. I can klap 100gigs plus a month with no throttling.

With P2P traffic it's essential that you make the pc you're using a static ipaddy on your router then forward a port for Vuze or utorrent or whatever client you're using then set your client to use that port only and not to randomize ports. Portforwarding.com is a good guide for port forwarding but if your router belongs to Telkon you'll need to get the password to alter the internal settings.

If you need any advice you're welcome to send me a pm and I'll help out if I can.
