    How to raise VW Touran

My Touran is just too low for Africa. Some speedbumps, even at slow speed, make contact. If I plan a weekend away (often farm stays or similar) and there is talk of a dirt road I get nervous. And I guess it doe snot help that I have 225/45/17 rubbers on it.

Appartently one shock is on its way out so I need to look at a new pair in any case. Can I raise the vehicle height by changing shocks or springs of both without compromising handling and safety? Volkswgen is not helpful.

The Touran is based on Golf chassis I think. Maybe I am lucky and I get a pimp workshop who has a client who wants it lowered and we swap, lol.

Seriouly., who on Cape Town would do something like that? Who do I turn to?

i will start with the rubbers first and maybe talk to VW about
what options they have for lifting it a bit but you will need a
    spacer kit

it is spacers that you insert on the top part of your shock
springs... you get them for 4x4 but i dont know about the
    VW Touran

Now that is odd. I have a 2009 model and according to the website there is no 17 inch for it at all while my 17 inch are apparently factory fitted. I had asked the service manager of a big VW dealer and he said VW has no olsution for my problem.

    Volkswagen Touran 2009, All Trims

    195/65R15 6Jx15 ET47 5x112 M14 x 1.5 57.1
    205/60R15 6.5Jx15 ET50 5x112 M14 x 1.5 57.1
    215/55R16 7Jx16 ET45 5x112 M14 x 1.5 57.1
    225/45R18 7.5Jx18 ET42 5x112 M14 x 1.5 57.1

But either way am I mistaken in saying that a larger rim is compensated by a lower profile tyre? In other words the dimension between the centre of the axsis and the road is always the same?

Just remember that changing the tyre diameter, will affect the speedometer, as the circumference changes.

I asked VW now as to how the Touran Cross achieves higher ground clearance.
