    Heated towel rails

    Morning guys.

I must install several heated towel rails in a few bathrooms.
1 is RIGHT NEXT TO A BATH.

    How legal are these things?
The thought that you can be in the bath and touch the rail concerns me.
    Will put on ELU.
    What else?

    Any thoughts

There's very specific rules around electrical installations in bathrooms, read the regulations regarding electrical zones around baths.

If I do not include on coc and state in an additional page that it is not included would that be safe for me?

Or is that bad practice.. Or acceptable?

If you exclude parts of the electrical installation than the certificate is not valid.

If you look at the regs around the zoning of a bath , yes you can fit a heater towel rail above the bath in zone 1 subject to the conditions listed in Table 7.1

We were once asked if you could fit a heater towel rail in a shower and when we looked at dimensions , we could legally fit it .Was a bit bigger than a normal shower.

I am busy with 2 heated towel rail installations ... they can be fitted next to the bath ... you just need to make sure you read the conditions as per the regs.

    Checked my regs book.
    Will fall into zone 2.
Onky problem is where do I put the isolator as it's a fixed appliance.
No ceiling in this particular bathroom.
An isolator mounted on tiles will look ugly.

I have used a 6 way 4x4 grid plate ... 3 x 20 amp D/P isolators (2 x heated towel rails and 1 x Xfan) on the bottom row and 3 light switches on the top row.

You can use a 4x 2 ... but it beomes a little tight with all the wires in and out.

The rules state with 1.5 m ... but once again ... a little common sense tells me its better to have the isolators on the light switch than in the bathroom ... a note on the COC ... justifying my logic.
