    Marketing for a labels company

    Hi guys,

was wondering if you can please assist me. Just been employed by a labels company who deals in manufacturing of self adhesive labels and digital printing.

I have been given a budget of around R8k to do a marketing champagne for the company and they said i should look at radio advertising. I thought otherwise. Radio advertising is basically mass marketing and hoping that the right person is going to hear the advert. I was thinking maybe magazine advertising?

Would like to hear your guys comments. We would like to focus on the self adhesive side of the business e.g. scale labels, promotional labels, till rolls, blank labels etc.

    Thanks guys!

I would print up a few catalogues get them proof read then go and see a few prospective customers with them. This will then give you some idea of the market. Then you can take it from there.
Also work out a USP and use that as the intro.

Hi IanF. we do that currently. We look at an industry and say lets target the courier company we get a list of all the companies and we get a catalogue for that industry made up and then we cold call them and try and set up a meeting. But its not going to well. Any other ideas?

Welcome to marketing. When you are calling on courier companies what are you trying to sell them? Pick an important product of yours they need and give them some for free out of your budget. Then find out if it is acceptable product. Now comes the hard part pricing and delivery.
Printing industry is changing so customers want short delivery times or knowledge that you can help them when they need there stickers yesterday because someone forgot to order.
Anyway good luck and lets see what the others have to say!

I'd be inclined to think targeted direct marketing should yield the best return on spend when it comes to traditional marketing methods on this sort of thing.

With an R8k budget for an advertising campaign - have you looked at Google Adwords yet? I'd certainly expect more bang for your buck than with radio advertising (where I expect R8k isn't going to go very far at all).

Seconded. A website with a decent Adwords campaign going to a good landing page is bound to get you more targeted traffic and leads than Radio advertising (on that budget anyway).

My guess is that was not put in there by accident.

We once did brochures were the customer insisted on using timorous instead of timeous because Microsoft word said timeous was wrong. So their deliveries were timorous? So sometimes the obvious typos get to me!

I thought you might have been referring to that.

Very true though, spelling/grammar errors tend to stick out like a sore thumb to me!
