    Not able to post

Frequently when I attempt to enter a quick reply, the system says I am not permitted (forgotten the actual wording).
If I go back and log on again, the reply is lost.

Often I have spent ages writing the reply. I understand if I have taken far too long to write it and have timed out, but it still indicates that I am logged on.
Sometimes I take it as a hint from the "universe" that something about my post is best not said!

Is it necessary to write the reply or post in word and then copy and send immediately after loggin on!
    Must be an easier way?
    Yvonne

Quick reply runs on a system called AJAX, which can be "unreliable" over shaped internet connections. I recommend using the Post Reply button for longer posts. This opens a "Post Reply" page which is not so prone to unreliable behaviour.

Even Post Reply messages can get lost in the trip to the server, but normally hitting the Backpage button in your browser will recover your work.

I'm afraid the problem is in the hands of the ISPs and not our hosting servers. It was part of why I disabled Quick Reply for a while, but brought it back due to popular demand.

Truly frustrating and I apologise for the inconvenience.

    AJAX

And we all thought AJAX was a detergent or a soccer team . . .

Strangely I've never noticed anything like that by using the quick reply. On this site or other forum sites with the same forum software. I've posted some really long replies too but they always seem to work. If you think it might happen during a post and find that pressing the back button doesn't recover what you've typed, you could always press ctrl-a and then ctrl-c. Then post the reply and if it times out just try again by pressing ctrl-v. It's very helpful to know these keyboard shortcuts and will become a habit if you always do it.

    What the shortcuts do:
    ctrl-a > selects all
    ctrl-c > copy
    ctrl-v > paste

Thanks bullfrog. It seems to be an intermittent problem and I've had it from time to time too. So has Sieg - he gave me a fair rev on it a while ago. Thought I was censoring his stuff.

Clearly as it is an intermittent fault it's not a program or server issue.
