Rudi, I am not sure but presently in Rustenburg only EDGE and sometimes GPRS. They say that mid June is the due date for fast service but if it will cover right up to Swartruggens I am not sure. It all depends where they are going to put their tower. If it is where the TV tower is at present right on the mountain then I guess it will work.
But, what we can do is that as soon as their fast service is running, you can borrow my setup and try it at their place. How's that !

    Thanx for the offer.

They're in Lindsey's Poort and get their signal from SilverKraans, which I highly doubt will have Cell-C reception. I think I'll give it another year or so, unless Cell-C pulls some quick moves on their network, and see what we can do.

You are welcome any day. I shall keep a watch on it and let you know if there is any progress. I was actually thinking about the Silverkrans tower. But lets wait and see.

Just a query about CellC's offering. It just sounds fishy to me:

    • On Contract: 12 months at R299/m for 5GB/m @ 21MB/s ... that means you pay in total R3588 for the year.
    • Prepaid with dongle: R2999 for 60GB over 12 months (i.e. 5GB/m) @ 21MB/s
    • Prepaid SIM only: R1999 for 60GB over 12 months (i.e. 5GB/m) @ 21MB/s

So is that R589 interest and R1000 for the dongle? And what's going on with the contract, you can only get rates of (at best) R0.13/MB for the 3GB bundle @ R400. When's this 5c/MB "promotion" going to end the honeymoon la-di-da days of fast cheap access?

And just so you can tell CellC to go "fix" that dongle of yours: Their own site states that it's a Huawei:
    http://www.cellc.co.za/devices/page/...SB_Speed_Stick
    http://www.cellc.co.za/devices/page/...SB_Speed_Stick

If it's not then they're clearly misrepresenting!

I cannot comment on the contract deals but I simply bought the 7.2 Mb deal and yes I do not know what the price per Mb would be once I run out of the 24 Gig.
Also you are right................ I now see on your link that the do show the Huawei stick.
Ok, back to CellC ! They did not supply what they advertise.

Hi, my tower is under my desk. I also had zero signal. Went & got a USB extension cord, now my stick hangs from the curtain rod, checked with Neotel : Download Speed: 2972 kbps (371.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 125 kbps (15.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

    HELP !!

Have any of you guys had any email contact with a PERSON at CellC ? If so please forward the email address to me.
I get absolutely no response from their Customer service department. i.r.o. the modem problem I have. They have now had my modem since 14/04/2011 for "repairs" due to the incompatibility and I have not had a single word from them. Hello Peter has also given up !

It is pointless in phoning as I shall have a stroke before I speak to the right person.

Is it not amazing that for a company that advertises their "prompt" service that it should be necessary to have to go to such extremes to get attention.
I even posted on My Broadband forum but got no reply. They actually have a "CellC representative" on the forum as well but I think he died ! or is playing possum when these niggly things come up.

I tried the Cell C help line when setting up the email SMTP settings for someone else. While waiting for the call to be answered, I perused their entire website, then Googled and followed up links until I got the right setting. The telephone call was never answered.

On the evening of the last day of each month I get no connectivity on Cell C. None, nada, zip, zero... I tried calling Cell C. Ended up watching a movie on TV.

Apart from that, so far so good

Yep..........No results ! They simply do not return your requests.

This is why I am looking for an email address of a real live person at CellC
