Far as I know there is only one public plant in the country that is licenced to destroy mercury containing lamps.
How many people know that it is advisable dor everyone to evacuate their home for about 15 minutes after a CFC lamp breaks in the home. How many know that the lamps are believed to promote cancer and for those who are afraid of dying, it is best not to use them in bedside lamps. I also believe that UK refuse collectors staged an action because of the dangers these lamps hold.

Hi King, purchase a 25l plastic container with a lid from a plastics factory shop that uses recycled plastic to manufacture. Then build up your stock of used light globes by storing it in the container. When you HAPPEN to make a trip to your hardware store that provide recycling facilities (also shopping centres such as the Pavilion in Durban) to purchase whatever you need, you drop off your used globes. That way you wont impact on your carbon footprint unnecesssarily.
