    Negotiating in good faith

Just what does "negotiating in good faith" mean to trade unionists. Consider this story from News24.com about the truckers strike.

It started at midday when the protesters, including those from the SA Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu), smashed the windows of 10 trucks, pulled drivers out of their vehicles and forced them to join the march.
Baloyi said the unions would meet with the Road Freight Employers Association (RFEA) in Boksburg at 10:00 to negotiate their demands.

"We are going to negotiate in good faith to resolve the strike," Baloyi said.
I guess negotiating in good faith does not preclude intimidation and malicious damage to property then?

If the government had the will they could with a lot of effort stop the intimidation by the unions, but the ANC is scared of losing the COSATU vote. This is a great pity as COSATU would be a great opposition party.
My respect for unionists is the same respect I have for politicians!
Only stress when you can change the outcome!

Last I heard, COSATU/affiliate trade unions were losing members hand over fist. I think COSATU needs the ANC far more than the ANC needs COSATU.

That said, JZ is not the type to alienate possible constituencies unnecessarily - or at all if he can in any way help it.
