It's quite amazing that cycling is one of the most dangerous sports in the world.

Very tragic. Can only imagine what it would feel like to lose a child like this.

I used to cycle, then there was a memorial one Saturday morning for 2 different cyclists killed the previous Sunday morning. The roads here have the shoulder with yellow lines, but they where taken out by drunken drivers at about 7AM. I am still too scared to cycle. I have fallen, broken a helmet got roasties, that didn't scare me, but having an idiot take you out from behind you have no control, that scares me.
There is nothing you can do on a bicycle to protect yourself from an idiot except don't cycle. The pity cycling is such a nice way to exercise.
Only stress when you can change the outcome!

Well with people driving around drunk, or with their damn mobile phones! Yes I can imagine why this is such a dangerous sport. Again my condolences, a young life taken are always a tragedy.

But it shows you how bad our drivers are in South Africa also it points to the fact that our traffic department bullies only the legal drivers "As shown on TV" and doesn’t take enough steps against real aggressors and road abuses.

the question that should be asked is how did a truck get anywhere close enough to the race... If it's between dbn n pmb, the road they used shouldn't have had traffic on it at all!
That's what they did with the amashova shova (when I went)

"apparently" the truck which rode over him was one of the constrution vehicles which was used in the construction area which the race went thru.
