Not much to do with the situation in South Africa, but in a US industry update brief I received this morning, I couldn't help but notice this:
CPI, which is the indicator normally used for routine adjustments to the minimum wage in the USA, ran at a touch more than 1% last year.Even if your state has not increased its minimum wage, changes may be on the horizon. President Obama has signaled that he supports an increase in the federal minimum wage during 2011 from $7.25 per hour to $9.25 per hour. We will keep you apprised of any developments in this area.
This $2 per hour increase would represent a 27.6% increase year-on-year.
If it happens, I bet there'll be "unexpected" consequences.
