    Encryption

    Hi All,

    I want to use a portable hard drive\usb stick between my home pc and business pc.

    What is the best way to protect my data should the device be stolen or lost?

    Encryption ? Password protection ??

    Thanks,

    You get USB flash encryption software most of it freeware. But you do get flash-drives that use fingerprint identification hardware build onto the flash drive itself. But I would use a commendation to ensure safety.

    You can start by buying a flash drive with fingerprint identification then use the freeware inscription software to encrypt the partition and you can use compression software to compress and lock the file via password and if it is a word or excel file then you can use the build in protection to lock the actual file itself.

    Mostly it will come down to what type of password you use.

    Use Truecrypt - BUT, save a copy of the header files (basically the password) in a safe place. Put it onto 2 or 3 CD's / DVD's and store them in a safe place.

    @SoftDux-Rudi, Thanks for the reply.

    One last thing I wanted to ask, the header files, is that an over ride facility in case you forget your password? Or is this file required each time to access your encrypted files?

    Thanks,
