    We need a Role?

Our company is growing, which is FANTASTIC. We are in the process of employing an assistant.

This person will assist us in:
    Marketing
    Sales and
    Office related duties.

What role can we assign this person with?
We can't really use just 'Marketing and Sales Assistant' or 'Offices Assistant' because this person will be performing multiple roles.

I'd like to hear your thoughts and ideas because my artistic powers are worn out

If the person is a bee then call her:
Professional Consultative Manager, Reverse Unilateral Precurement Specialist of acceptance of currency for the delivery of items created by the concern, Motivational facilitator of market participation at grass roots level focusing on the enlightenment of the population in relation to market penetration & Adminstrator of office affairs including cleanliness of drinking crockery associated with the caffienne intake of lowly management and cleanliness of floor coverings and vessels responsible for the collection of unused items such as bannana peels from goverment offfial visits..

If she's not a bee then call her:
That pretty buxom blonde that doesn't know squat, paints her nails all day long and sits on the bosses lap.

A bit New York, but the word "intern" covers all manner of evil chores, all wrapped in hope of a better life one day.

Otherwise, is "Girl Friday" outdated nowadays? Or perhaps "general assistant"?

Adrian, thank you for your epic reply... I am still giggling, well put Adrian :-)
Dave, I thought of 'General Assistant' and that is when I thought there must be other role names to consider - hence my post

Do they really need a title?

Job description, definitely. Titles are over rated for small business.

  6. Thanks given for this post:

A title to me is very important:
    1. Our letter of appointment defines role and responsibilities
    2. In most email signatures, the designation of the person is present (I personally like to see who I am dealing with).
    3. Titles also encourage promotions, we have career paths for our staff because I encourage growth and self-development
    4. Staff want to feel part of a company (any size) and I believe without a title there is no cherry on the cake.

We ensure that our employees have a defined Role and Responsibilities, it is very important to us and to our staff.

Cream - something to think about -

How are you going to handle the title when those roles are split, given that one person is now covering, what should be, 3 seperate roles.

    Adrian, thanks!

For now we will use 'General Assistant', and we have considered doing the following:

    Title: General Assistant
Role 1 (Name) Role 2 (Name) Role 3 (Name)
Then the responsibilities are broken down per role.
