To quote "One tragic typo, and the weasel goes poop"
I know that forums are more relaxed places and you should look past the typos. But some typos leave me confused I got this off facebook "I sent my wife a sms the other day, whilst I was travelling. Also had one small typo. SMS read "Wish you were her" instead of "Wish you were here"."
That is the confusion I would like to avoid.
Only stress when you can change the outcome!

One of the major points noticed during the early days of the internet was that it wasn't as strict as if you were writing a letter to someone. If you are running a professional site, then you will want to convey that professionalism. if you are on a forum and just want to convey your message, it isn't as important. At the end of the day, you're trying to communicate your thoughts to another person (or in this case, group of people). spelling and grammar will help that along, but if the message is still conveyed without good spelling or grammar, then there is no reason to get fixated on that. If it is unreadable, then go ahead and make some noise.

Actually come to think of it, not just typo's but contact list errors also cause humor or divorce material!

My wife a few weeks ago typed a message to her best friend, they talk about EVERYTHING, and it was a very private type of message referring to a guy on TV and how hot he was etc.

The problem was she sent to one of her new clients! A good looking guy and his wife!!. As she "sent" she realized the mistake, the message could have been construed for him.... fortunately his wife etc was there, realized it was error etc but it really could have been nasty

Reminds me of some time I spent in Thailand during my mis-spent youth.

Poor spelling is a blessing if you're trying to work out if what you're reading is Nigerian spam or not :-)

It used to annoy me but I've become immune to it after frequenting international forums for several years. I'm just happy that everyone tries to communicate in English even if it is the broken variety.

I used to associate good English and correct punctuation with credibility and being knowledgeable amongst other things but not so much nowadays. I think the internet and 160 7-bit character Short Message Service ('SMS' or 'text message') were the nails in the coffin for Queens English.

I believe with some it's just a case of fingers being clumsier than the mind.

We have some clearly talented contributors here on TFSA who's strength isn't in the typing/language department. While I pay some care in the final result of my own posts, I feel it would be disrespectful to interfere with the product of other members' efforts.

I may be old fashioned, but in the end I've got quite comfortable with paying more attention to the content of the message than the perfection of the delivery. Except where it tickles my sense of irony, of course

It's also interesting to see how some member's writing style evolves over time. At the risk of giving offence where none is intended by singling someone out, I believe tec0 deserves a special mention in this. His writing style has really come along in leaps and bounds over the time he's been a member here.

In fact, I'm mildly curious as to whether his participation here has been part of this...
