    ANC lose an election

If the ANC should lose an election would they accept defeat graciously. Remember what happened in Kenya, the DRC and the obvious one is our neighbour Zimbabwe.
I wonder what they would do to try and stay in power. They are stealing everything else in the country so an election should be an easy matter.

In early 2010, Malema urged ANC Youth League members to join the South African National Defence Force, and said that there were plans for the Youth League leadership to join the reservist programme

At this point, still a pretty low risk.

What I find more interesting (mainly because there's a higher possibility of it actually happening) is if someone squeaky clean makes a run for ANC president. I'm pretty sure JZ's run was motivated more out of self-preservation than any particular desire to lead the party on to great things.

JZ would be taking one heck of a risk allowing a successor that isn't in some way obliged to protect him from the corruption charges coming back again.

I heard once, don't know if this is fact or fiction.....but you cannot be high up in the ANC if you do not have a criminal record. They apparently do not accept you as a leader if you are "clean"???

Dave, your last sentence caught my eye. Zuma is in the rather invidious position of have been placed in power by various factions. I doubt very much whether he is going to be really in a position to influence the selection of his successor.
Just how strong Zuma is only time will tell.
