gmail's new buzz feature is a waste of time, IMO

Has anyone seen gmail's new "buzz" feature? It looks very similar to twitter, of even facebook - but inside the email client.

I guess it's some sort of social media thing, and they're trying to catch up to Facebook or perhaps Twitter

I don't know about you, but this is rather annoying. I don't want to be socializing with everyone in my address book, every time I read or type an email. Who use it, in any case?

Well yes it probably will be like the above mentioned but really... Think about this Facebook and all the rest makes use of Google and Google use them. But now Google is stealing the Facebook clients and other such WebPages for themselves. Selfish got a new name “Google”

social media is one of the biggest anti-privacy campaigns in the history of humanity. The real question is whether we honestly care or not.

Well in all honesty, I destroyed my facebook account but when I Google it, it is still there! This is why I hate networks like facebook they do not respect you at all.

It is actually easer to change your name in real life then what it is to get it of facebook. The bad thing is they are adamant about your info being correct. Well I got rid of all my photos and stuff but it is just so bad knowing that they are keeping your account alive regardless of deregistration. I wish someone will just close facebook down because of this.

Ended up skipping straight past it myself.

Google's been trying to horn in on social networking for a while, so the move isn't much of a surprise. But social networking is an odd thing... it's not as catchy as lots of people seem to think.

I mean Facebook has done well, no doubt about that. (Some interesting observations in the previous few posts, though ). But there were hordes of forum admins who were pressing vBulletin to introduce social networking as something really important for forum sites. And once it came... most agreed the features weren't anywhere near used as much as was expected. In fact, most of those screaming for the features ended up just loading a mod that links your profile to Facebook.

Google might end up with some decent penetration in the end, though. The social networks that have done well despite Facebook's dominance all seem to have one thing in common, the ease with which to kick start your network - normally an app that mines your Outlook address book. And this Google deal looks like it's nothing more than a click away to get up and running.

Trouble is I'm a bit saturated with network invites... I think I had at least three invites to Naymz before I even clicked to take a look.
