Apple's new toy: the apple iPad

    Hi all,
Apple got the fans salivating by refusing to name the device (the marketers at apple are geniuses). Now they've named it iPad (a bit drab really. they seem to have a real naming issue... iPhone, iPad... what about iBlowsYourMind or something interesting), showing it off at Steve's usual keynote speech.

One thing is for sure, Apple may be struggling to get market share with PCs, but they're doing pretty damn well in everything else.

I think Apple's strength in device technology other than PCs is their "full package" approach. When you buy the product, it's got all the software you're going to need all loaded and ready to go.

With PCs you're essentially buying the physical platform and then you add software to suit your application of that particular machine.

This makes their "weak point" in the PC market their strong point in dedicated application devices.

Does that sound like a valid argument?

It does indeed. I'd also throw in that the premium on Apple comps are high. While that matters in the Computer world, everywhere else premiums are the norm.

Apple’s new technology is really powerful small and useful. Think of it a normal computer “notebook” needs a lot of attention to work properly. You need RAM the biggest CPU you can get and just maybe it will not freeze while giving a presentation in front of 2 international and 10 national bosses. “And leave you speechless and embarrassed”

This little toy seems to be from a new generation and I hope that it is. However price, In South Africa it is difficult to justify the price of there “innovations” still we will soon see if I am right or wrong on that one.

Just did some reading up on the specs.
On the plus side the arm 1gig processor should give longer battery life....and that's it....oh and I nearly forgot bragging rights.

    On the minus side;
    It has no USB port.
Your tied to all the usual Apple proprietary stuff like itunes, only apple apps, no video playback unless it's in your itunes library or converted to Apple formats.
It's too big to be carried like a phone.
No built in camera.(no good for Skype etc)
    No built in card reader.
No HDMI output, won't play 1080HD output, only 720p in 4x3 ratio, not widescreen.
    No GPS support.
It's got no advantages over a netbook, and several disadvantages.

From what I can see, if you own an iphone and you wish it was twice the size and didn't make calls then the ipad is for you.
