    A system to find out where your e-mail address originally came from

    One gent I know has a very good way of tracking this. He has an account where he can get dozens of aliases. The way that he uses this, is to make a new alias e-mail address for each different place that he gives out his e-mail address to.

    Eg. The e-mail address he would give if he signed up as a member of this forum would be something like: theforum@joeblogs.co.za.
    The e-mail address he would give if he signed up for, say, an account at Edgars would be something like: edgars@joeblogs.co.za

    This way he knows the origin of any e-mail address that he is sent mail through.

    You can do a similar thing with gmail, I've done this in the past where I suspect spam may be an issue.
