you have to be connected to enjoy the fruits of injustice.

After a series of non-prosecutions of government employees for slipping stuff out of the till, non-prosecution of parliamentarians for Travelgate where they paid the money back, we get this..
Lindiwe Bulo, the EAAB's secretary, confirmed last year that some of the board members involved in the alleged financial irregularities had repaid the board, but stressed that criminal charges would be laid against board members implicated by the forensic audit irrespective of whether they had repaid the money.

Being an ANC parliamentarian has just got to be the ultimate power trip. Don't want to pay a bill? Just publish a notice in the Government Gazette saying you don't have to pay.
Should parliament have its way, the ministers, Komphela and dozens of other MPs - most of whom are ANC members - will not only not have to pay their alleged Travelgate debts, they will also be paid back whatever legal fees they rang up in fighting the claims.

This, according to two legal experts consulted on the matter, could result in taxpayers footing a "very substantial" legal bill.

Parliament will, however, first have to answer some uncomfortable accusations that it colluded with Bathong's liquidators to stop the recovery of MPs' alleged debts.

The claims were made by Jackson & Neethling Chartered Accountants and Flare Beverages, two of the Bathong creditors, who took legal action after parliament published a tiny notice in the Government Gazette, revealing that it would ask creditors of Bathong to instruct liquidators "to cease all other litigation as against the members of parliament in relation to all 'vouchers' that may have been utilised by Bathong Travel or its directors or shareholders".

It further stated that liquidators would be told not "to pursue any action as against the various members of parliament in relation to the un-invoiced tickets, levies and/or services".

It seems connections and some injustice has been the cause of the Metro Police strike and the trouble that has gone with it in Johannesburg.
At wage negotiations earlier this year, the City of Johannesburg and Samwu agreed that the minimum salary for a qualified officer would be R8 560 per month.

Yet, some qualified and experienced officers were receiving only R4 550 per month compared to the R17 000 that another officer was believed to be earning, Langa said.

"The preferential treatment was brought to management's attention three years ago and the employer did not address the issue," he said.

Workers' immediate demands were that they be paid the same as the officer allegedly earning R17 000 per month, or that all officers be paid at least the agreed minimum of R8 560 per month.

"We have been very clear on our demand which is that there can be no officer earning less than the minimum agreed for JMPD officers in this city and there can be no officer who suddenly gets a huge salary increase because he or she is friends with management," Langa said.
