Inspectors equipped to enforce hospitality sectoral determination

Released by The Department of Labour on 17 May 2007
A total of 674 Department of Labour inspectors are currently being trained to enforce compliance with the newly promulgated sectoral determination in the hospitality sector.

Reports received from nine out 10 provincial offices excluding the North West, show that the Department will stop at nothing in ensuring the exploitation of workers becomes a thing of the past.

The Eastern Cape office is conducting training for 124 inspectors, while the greater Limpopo province trains a total of 120 officials. The Western Cape is training 114, followed by 79 in Mpumalanga and 68 in Pretoria.

In KwaZulu-Natal 64 inspectors are being trained and 25 in the greater Johannesburg area.

In addition to the number of inspectors undergoing the sessions, 82 registration officials are also being equipped.

These are the very standard 6 bodies I have been referring to in the other posts. They will 'stop at nothing' to stuff all and sundry. I do not believe that these people, that they have 'trained', have any business knowledge, or with reference to this news, specialised knowledge of the hospitality industry, in them. They are unable to apply the act within that scope, assume every establishment to be guilty of 'exploiting the wekkers', and try to be clever at every turn, cause they have officialdom on their side.

A person cannot be trained over one week or even one year. There is no way, in hell, that these are learned people. They are trained assassins. Please remember, there basic salaries are low so they really on their commission, not paid by the Department, but you the employer. We, in the legal profession, call it bribes.

We in the business world call it bullshit and they can stick their suntanned hand out all they like - there will be no shaky business on this side of the fence.
