    Thank goodness for Howzit!

I've just read a pretty good blog entry on meeting people at conventions. Oh boy - so true. When it's hectic the brain's index system doesn't function as well as it should and I know I've gone blank on a person's name at the most inopportune moments.

    My quick tips:
Make sure your name tag is flipped the right way around, and...
    Thank goodness for Howzit!

Have you got any tips of your own?

Well here is my way of getting a person’s name. “If I forgot it”

Yes Mineer wat sê jy! “If he is English it still works” Shake his hand and I say the following: “My friends kid got me phone and whipped out most of my numbers man... Mind giving me your number again?

He gives you his number “now if you have his number his name will show” and problems solved if not continue: cool thanks for the number mind spelling me your name again. He will politely spell you his name and surname if you want him too. Problem solved.

For most women you just change the “Yes Mineer wat sê jy” to “Hi how are you,” greet politely then continue with the “kid got me phone story” and presto! You got her name. This works 90% of the time.

10% failure rate is those that know you but never gave you there phone number in the first place! This is embarrassing, however if you have a humour about yourself you can twist this around and get smiles all around.

Still a camera phone is a wonderful tool. Just take a picture to go with the name and number. Most people don’t mind if you take a picture to go with the information. Especially at convention most look their best and they are normally forth coming. So if you think you know that person chances are you will have a picture of them on your phone. This works 70% of the time and thanks to better camera phones the success rate goes up.
