    The obsession with the trade test

    The trade test. Need to vent

    Right I'm going to upset a few people but I don't care.

    As far as I can make out the electrician trade test is the ability to memorise which pins you link out on a board with wires on it and bend some conduit.

    I'm not saying that I think I could easily do everything on the trade test straight away but what I am saying is that I know how to work it out which seems to be what is not taught. If you have a star/delta starter I could work out to how wire it or fix a fault on it, it's been a while but I can do it. What is the point of all these preparation for trade test courses when all they seem to achieve is to train someone how remember which wire to link out on a board. I know that's not always the case but... you know what I'm saying. Its driving me nuts, I go for a job and they ask have you done a trade test. No but I have been working for 12 years.
