    Unhappy Telkom Hard Capping

I have telkon DO DO broadband - "The Widest Band" adsl internet and Telkom is my ISP.
I saw recently on this forum that Telkom is hard capping again. I just took a look at the stats from Telkom on my line and it says I have used 0.5 Gig which represents 50%. Last month I used 1.495 Gig and reached something like 99%.
So has Telkom reverted to 1 gig in response to competition from the new undersea cables and satelite links or what?

And WHERE did the poster get this info from (which seems to be correct)? It's certainly not on the Telkom web site.

I don't recall reading a post to that effect here - perhaps mybroadband? They tend to keep a pretty close watch on that sort of thing.

As for them doing it as a response to Seacom - I would have thought that should push them the other way, opening things up rather than becoming more restrictive.

Perhaps it depends on how on-the-limit our local infrastructure is. In theory local capacity should be fine, but with their funny way of counting blended, perhaps not

If you find out, please let us know here too.

News from Telkom today. 21st Aug 2009.
"TelkomInternet has also amended its unique capping policy. Users are now being capped upon reaching the exact blended data allocated as per the purchased package."
So its pay for 1 gig and get one gig, then hard cap. Also they have amended SOME of their packages to cap at higher levels for same price but NO INCREASE IN BASE SPEEDS!
Also I heard yesterday from a very high source that in 1991 Telkom emplyed 67000 staff and today the figure is 24000. So staff, service and product reductions for any loyal customers are the order of the day.
