It depends on what you consider as important. I aim to post about 3-4 times a month (I see this as an unspoken agreement with my readers). That is the routine that I have gotten in to which works for me. If someone can post a quality blog post everyday then that is great (in the long run I would like to increase my number of posts), but I prefer to read (and hopefully write) fewer well written and well thought out posts.

I've been blogging for about two and a half years now, and in that time I have built a "long tail" of posts. As I add to that my readership and traffic grow. It has been slow, but I never expected (or aimed for) dramatic and quick growth. Different strategies work for different people (and goals).

points well taken. I also try and blog 2 or 3 times a month, but don't know if it's really enough, yet I don't always have time todo a decent blog post.

One of the blogs that made the cut has 6 entries in the last 5 months. Volume of work doesn't seem to be an issue.

Anyway - I managed to cheer myself up with this instead.

Nah - that would be bitching. This way it's just an observation.

Uuuuhhhh OK then? Not to sure how a couple of those made it in there.

Dave, maybe your layout is just to neat...? maybe it's just not enough real HARDCORE swearing that kept you outaa the race?? Dunno know!

Well good up for them and may the best blog win! Honestly i'm not sure that TFSA was in the running as it is a forum? Just a thought. I really think TFSA blows most of those out the water! Keep it up Dave!

OK. I'm going to run the risk of being accused of sour grapes. It's not - I'm quite comfortable with the idea that we were never in the running now. But think what you like. You are invited to make up your own mind.

I'm afraid the 2009 SA Blog Awards has become proof that democratic voting and good judgement are not the same thing. And why Jacob Zuma will become our next State President.

If the SA blogging community, who arguably should represent the more thoughtful amongst us, can cock up the results of the SA Political Blog of the Year Award, how can we blame the SA electorate if they install one of our more morally suspect citizens to the highest office in the land?

I suppose I'd better back that up. (No - not that JZ is morally suspect - surely by now that is common cause ) Let's talk about political blogs.

Previously I alluded that regular blog entries did not seem to be a criteria. Well, that observation is now confirmed. Azad Essa's Accidental Academic on Thought Leader is SA's 2009 political blog of the year.

Now I could easily point to the runner up, SA Rocks, to try to make a point but that would be too easy. Let's slide down to number 6 - Constitutionally Speaking - and do a little comparison. On second thought, you're invited to make up your own mind. But I know which one is going into my RSS feedreader to solve my boredom problems.

Apart from that glitch, I don't think there's much room for complaint. Maybe it's just politics that is so screwed up in this great country of ours.

If you do nothing else, take a moment to read the best post awards. I assume the link to the homepage of moralfibre was just a glitch that will be fixed in due course, but the rest are great!

Like so many things its a popularity contest and it's determined by the population that vote – whether that is good or bad is up for debate.

So many important things aren't popular. I suspect it is a marketing issue, although I'd be interested to know what other people think.

With the SA Blog Awards, is it just a case of a small community voting? My feeling is that most of the voting people are a part of the blogging community themselves – how much does being "inside" of that community affect your "popularity" in this type of vote?
