    Productivity month

I got this email suggesting that April is Productivity Month.

Is this some kind of sick joke?

Maybe the email went out early, and should only have been sent at the beginning of April

Actually, come to think of it, it makes perfect sense! You still need to make your targets in April, but you are deprived of all those extra unnecessary days to achieve them, therefore you (and your staff) have to be more productive

    Unhappy

    Got that email as well.

Our caretaker President has announced the date for elections: Wednesday 22 April 2009.
He couldn't have picked a worse date if he tried.
Not only is it a Wednesday, but he selected the only week in April that was until then a full working week.
So far we have public holidays on 10th, 13th and 27th April, not to mention 1st May.
Now add 22 April and the traditional "National Productivity Week" from 27th April to 1st May, becomes National Productivity Month, from 1st April to 1st May.

Then I was thinking....Take out April 1 which according to Religious folk is the only day that Atheists are allowed to take during the year as a holiday. Take a day off on each side of the holidays to allow for winding up and winding down operations.

That leaves 13 potential working days in April.

An announcement of note - obviously part of a big plan thats still being planned.

So lets see...mmmm...if I am allowed to take 15 working days leave a year....mmmmm......I think I'll talk to the boss. Oh I am the boss....well the little boss anyway - OK - I'll see you all on May 3 then. What....!! you want me to work during March first? Hmmph.

My main business is corporate related - so holiday time means a wind down period before holidays and a wind up period after, before the business guys travel down. While I may do well on the long weekends themselves for at least two days out of the three, we often have slow days before and after which makes a general decrease in overall averages. This period is not going to be good for me.
There is a marked decrease in people doing holidays away from home and although we are central to most things we are not on the beach so I am not going to hold my breath for this end of the market. The easter weekend should be good but the trends are usually low for the other weekends during this period.
International tourists are few - firstly because Durban is not on their Maps and secondly because they still favour a hotel environment.
That leaves family and friends..........mmmmmm.... better keep quiet here.
