    Voter registration

So today is a voter registration day, but the IEC's website is undergoing maintenance and their phone lines are engaged. Hmm.

Their website couldn't take the load yesterday, but seems to be up now - including this message:
The Electoral Commission (IEC) has pleaded with South Africans to be patient after a surge in internet usage by people wishing to enquire about their registration to vote in next year’s election clogged the server and the call centre.
    from IEC website here
The local registration location is up and running just fine though. My daughter registered this morning. Quick, easy and no queues.

Partially my own dork-ness for not reading the message on the screen properly and just seeing the word "maintenance" - their site only supports Internet Explorer. If I had read the message carefully I would have noticed. There was a short period of down time though.

Fortunately their registration points have big signs and their happens to be one at the end of my street, so registered quickly and effortlessly.

I'm guessing you have moved since the last time you voted (?). You don't seem the type that wouldn't have bothered about voting in the past.
