Driving the N3 between Durban and Johannesburg is normally quite a challenge with dodging all the long haul trucks on the road. I did the drive because I had a conference in Gauteng last week, and the difference in the number of trucks on the road this time (against December last year) was huge!

There were hardly any trucks!

I travelled up on the Monday and returned on Saturday. Normally trucks outnumber cars about 4:1. This time there were definitely more cars than trucks on the road - maybe 2:1 or more.

Either there is a lot more going by rail or the economy has taken a serious dip.

Has anyone else that regularly spends time on the long road noticed this?
