    Abuse of Power

Daily now the reports come in on situation that can only fit into an Abuse of Power scenario. It used to be more group motivated with political objectives - it is now getting to be more (well it always has been, but now its even more blatant in your face stuff) personally 'motivated' where politicians line their pockets and use service systems at an ever increasing rate.

Yesterday it was politicians avoiding personal load shedding after they had created the problem in the first place.

The day before it was the Mayor of Durban and his merry band organising themselves luxury cars after having organised the rates rip in Durban.

Yesterday, today and probably for a while to come, its Premier Ndebele's House that has been been burgled and a laptop stolen. Where is the abuse of power here - well he has Armed guards, private security, personal body guards, security systems all paid for by you and I. His Laptop goes missing and despite all of these paid for deterrents, the top brass of the police force are now on the scene along with special branch police, crime investigator experts and the forces top detective ranks to determine how these 'arrogant criminals' could have even though of ripping him off.

We on the other hand can have an entire house wiped out as a result of not affording any security and then we are lucky if the police force sends out a bungling constable to review the situation ten days after the event.

Banana Republic seems to be the city manager, Sutcliffs plan down here in Durban. He has just condoned the continued employment of a Constable in the Durban Metro that bought a R17 Million home along with a string of exotic cars and lords it up with all the top politicians. A man that apparently makes taxi bosses frightened. Go figure.

Selebe, McBride, Mbeki, Zuma.............endless list; - it seems have forgotten who they are and why they got where they are........or have they?

Promoting self gain under the guise of transformation and BEE - mmmmm....
Promoting crime so that one can benefit from it....mmmmmm.....
Promoting darkness so that they can see the light.....mmmmmm...
Promoting socialism for you and capitalism for them...mmmmmmm...

Here from the ANC's Paper on Moral Renewal of the Nation.
Since it began nearly a century ago, and at every stage of the struggle for liberation, the ANC has been motivated by strong ethical convictions, especially the moral value of justice for all, and respect and care for other people. In contrast, the systems imposed by colonial rule departed from morality. As apartheid began to develop its systems of social engineering, it was revealed as fundamentally unjust and unethical.

The democratic changes of 1994 introduced a major change. The apartheid system was consigned to history. All countries which have passed through a major social change to establish new objectives, structures and modes of behaviour have found this a time of tension. Some seek to inhibit the development, others use it for party political purposes, and blatantly immoral elements come to the surface.

Corruption, criminality, tax evasion, fraud, rape, the abuse of women and children, drunkenness, extortion, and family breakdown, much of it touched by violence, are the outward forms of a diseased social climate which affects all of us. The whole country is passing through a period of transition in which we are seeking to establish a new and successful modern society. The problems we experience are not different from those in other societies - but at this formative stage we intend to do something to ensure that South Africa becomes a truly moral society.
If this is true then what is going on? We appear to have been hijacked by a gang of self-serving government lackeys who fail to deliver, fail to have the countries interests at heart and have lost the plot. Maybe the plot is on course and you just haven't realised that you are not part of the plan.

    Powerful stuff, Marq.

I've been watching the fun and games at the SABC.

First of all the Board of Directors reprimands Dali Mpofu over concerns about his management at SABC.
So Dali gets his cronies on the government sub-commitee to force a vote of no confidence in the Board of Directors.
Now Dali has been suspended by the Board. *Surprise*

The Radio 5 DJ's have been a hoot on it all, though. They reckon you need to smile and wave and kiss ass to everyone - even the floor cleaner. They might be your next boss!

Who needs soap operas - just run a documentary on the corridors of power at the moment.

I'm reading the story about Tiger Brands and their price fixing/cartel tactics for which they are being taken to task.

And I couldn't help but think that preferential procurement is not that far away from causing similar harm. We just need to look at what it has done to Eskom's coal procurement prices.

Maybe what Tiger Brands needs is a few connected fat cats on the Board, then they wont need to go the cartel route. They'll be able to get any contract they want at their higher price quite legally through preferential procurement.
