    tax ammnesty

i called the sars a week ago to find out if my ammnesty on outstanding interest had been finalised yet...to my delight they said it was all sorted out i was not longer required to pay the R22000.00 and only had to pay the principle debt...boy was i happy...so today i managed to get the balance together and went to the sars office to settle the debt...ha ha ha what a joke they had made a mistake my amnesty had only been sent to JHB for approval yesterday...and would probably not be sorted out for a least another year...but in the mean time the interest is just climbing by the day.

Tough call, because if you make any payments against assessed tax in the meantime it might be applied against the interest first. And I wouldn't be surprised if it's a fairly large crowd that's in this position too.

I'm not sure what can be done about it, other than make sure your current stuff is paid up to date in the meantime. At least provisional payments are applied against a specific period as opposed to a general "brought forward" balance.

If it's any consolation - R22k was worth a lot more in those days.

Interesting that they don't have any records.
