A visitor to my office yesterday said the current ANC leadership have become "The Untouchables". A rather disturbing analogy, I think.

The African Christian Democratic Party, Democratic Alliance (DA), Independent Democrats and United Democratic Movement have filed a joint submission in the Pretoria High Court as a friend of the court in support of Hugh Glenister's bid to stop the disbanding of the Scorpions, the parties said on Thursday.
Glenister launched a private application for an interdict against the move on constitutional grounds, which will be heard between May 20 and 22.
"Our contention is that the decision to pursue legislation disbanding the Scorpions was not made by any organ of state, but by the African National Congress [ANC] in an effort to protect its members from investigation and prosecution for alleged transgressions," the parties claimed in a joint statement.
Recognition as a friend of the court permits the parties to offer information that would assist the court in arriving at a decision.
DA chief whip Ian Davidson asked the Speaker of Parliament, Baleka Mbete, in March to halt the legislative process to disband the Scorpions pending the outcome of Glenister's challenge.
On Tuesday the General Laws Amendment Bill, which would facilitate the Scorpions' move from the National Prosecuting Authority to the Safety and Security Department, was tabled.

Apart from the ANC, is there anyone else that supports the disbanding of the Scorpions? The disbanding of the Scorpions will protect corrupt and criminal politicians from prosecution, the deputy director of Public Prosecutions warned on Thursday.
The Directorate of Special Operations (DSO), also known as the Scorpions, would lose its ability to independently investigate government officials if it was incorporated into the police, said Billy Downer, SC.
"In my view, you want to free your investigators from the political control of the police," Downer said at a PricewaterhouseCoopers conference in Johannesburg on economic crime.

Address by Charles Nqakula Minister for Safety and Security on South African Police Service Amendment Bill, debate, National Assembly
19 June 2008
Honourable Speaker
Honourable Members of the House
The bills that are before this house today are a culmination of various discussions that have been taking place at government level, and, at other instances, within the ruling African National Congress. Dominating all of those discussions was the matter of crime, generally, in South Africa and organised crime, specifically, and how to prevent and combat the scourge.

The Scorpions is perceived as anti ANC, the ANC is a freedom fighter creation, funded in part through crimes of many dimensions and as well as foreign funding, one must look into some background history of this funding, from private individuals to major international company's, for example Brett Cible and others, with built in rewards for these people, 90% of today’s multimillionaires, first was taken up into government virtually penniless and then exited as mega business people, multimillionaires with a lot of influence - were did their funding come from, they surly did not earn it, were did their influence come from, been board members on multiple businesses, not because of ability or qualification, no just BEE, this in it self is criminal
