    Ethekwini SSEG registration

Please see the process for residential/commercial customer application to install SSEG below:

Please also note that the customer will need to obtain approval from the Municipality prior to any SSEG installation. I have outlined the application process for your ease of reference below:

Submit the following documentation to (residential.generation@durban.gov.za or Commercial.Generation@durban.gov.za) depending on the application made and copy sanjeeth.sewchurran@durban.gov.za on the email.

    1. Completed application form (residential and commercial application forms attached)
    2. NRS 097 inverter certificate
    3. Operating Philosophy if you have batteries/supercapacitors to be installed
    4. Equipment data sheets
    5. Detailed Single Line Diagram
    6. PV/generation production simulation report

Once the application is assessed and approval is given, construction may commence. On completion of construction and commissioning, the following is required:

    1. COC
    2. Completed commissioning report (attached above)
    3. Pr Eng/Pr Tech sign off letter for the installation
    4. As built drawing if any changes were made to SLD submitted
    5. View access to the PV generation portal

Once the above is received, we will set up a site inspection and if all is in order then we will issue with a letter.

However, take note that there could be additional requirements such as a Grid Impact Study that will be needed to be carried out by the applicant depending on the size of the proposed generation system.

My initial thought is who is paying for all that ?

The installer ? I surely can not afford all that and at the time of install it was unknown.

Seeing that I can no longer quote and or do any installation or the quotes are now going to be extra R60K just for the above.

Grid studies are generally only required after 350KWH plants as per NERSA
Some of the questions and requirements are not necessary for systems less than say 15KW and I am sure that can be changed through discussion and a simplified form for the run of the mill installation can be issued
NMB have produced a 2 page form to simplify and speed up the process

I have registered all my systems installed and recommended to clients to pay the extra fee for grid feed tariff and it works for them.
I have a client on a 2,5Kw panels and 5Kw inverter and 5KWH battery which works from a cost perspective

Now that I have an email that works, I plan to start the process next week.

This is going to be the first obsticle. I have been trying since the first intallation to find out about registration and finally got a response fro mthe council. Lets see how this registration process works out.

"Please also note that the customer will need to obtain approval from the Municipality prior to any SSEG installation. I have outlined the application process for your ease of reference below:"

The first question is going to be, what is regarded as an SSEG and who must register?

There is some good news, I have received NRS certificates for both Sunsynk and Deye inverters we have installed, thgats a good start. It pays to deal withthe right people and suppliers.

Do you need the NRS for each one individually? I assume it's a blanket document ? : )

Hoping to meet up with old boss as he has made some in roads for Gauteng for registering so want to see what he has found but what I did find is very similar things needed that you stated.

And agreed what constitutes requirements for registration is my first question. For example what if no panels on roof ? Also if it is an axpert type ? All the same questions you have basically

Its like trying to squeeze water out of a stone, there should be a platform with all the relevant data, Q&A, tarrifs and most important contact details that are correct.

I have been trying to register systems with Ethekwini since I started doing installations, the only reason I have moved a step closer is thanks to a person who shared an email address. What is going to be interesting is how they handle all these registration and what they ar egoing to do about the ones which ar ealready installed.
