Yes we use it for most of our startups. It does depend a little on what you do. If you are a locally based business looking to get Clients of the web then a GMB listing may help you. The big reason is that the algorithm that ranks GB is a little different than for websites. Proximity and citation are the biggest two factors. This means unlike with awe website if your gmb listing isn't old, or has a ton of backlinks and authority it still has a chance to show up on the top of the rankings and get you a call, website, visit message or shop visit.

GMB listings are especially prominent on mobile devices and have some great features such as adding content like services, products, images, and offers, and unless Google inflates the metrics they do get a fair amount of exposure.

The GMB listing is free so use it, all this being said don't rely solely on this, a strong website still needs to be built but the GMB listing can get you those extra few leads. Don't forget to make a website on GMB and in the description add a backlink to your website. In the long run all components such as GMB, Websites, Social media other online citations work together so your long ter plan should be to get to all of them if applicable

I have been speaking to someone in business and they want to help others set up their GMB and charge a fee.
I'm trying to gauge if it's a prospective worth going for as a possible partner
