Maybe I am not reading it right, I dont see why you would require a fuse on each lamp holder, "a" fuse would be required in case a standard lamp was inserted in either lamp holder.

I went with the white fuse with the red wire.

Worse case scenario a a 25 Watt LED lamp x 2 = 50 watts/ 230 VAC = 0.2 amps. A 0.5 amp fuse should do the trick. Not sure if the crap PF of some lamps, as low as 0,5 and inrush would affect the fuse.

By the way now I am curious to know what would happen if I install a standard lamp into a 230 VAC lamp holder without a ballast and starter. I have seen a lamp explode, so I am not going to be that foolish to try it. Would it blow a fuse?

Coc's shouldn't be a problem. The light is not included in the coc. Only the supply to the light.

That would be the response I would expect from 90% of electrical contractors in SA.

Just a note with regards to the fuse in the light fitting, a fuse would be more of a pain in the butt, if you have ever installed a PioLED lamp the wrong way it creates a dead short between live and neutral which results in the circuit breaker tripping in the DB.

If there was a fuse, you would have to take a sample and drive all the way back to the wholesaler, the easy solution, just cut the wire and bypass it.

With all these things a CoC should cost around 10% of the sale total and a couple of months.... Hahaha. There is actually so so much stuff they just laden on us but we can not charge for.

    Very disheartening all this too.

We need to have almost every Sans book and manufacturing book as well now when doing a CoC.

Fuken easier to put a 100A plug at the Main DB for the whole installation and call the house an appliance.... Hahahaha

That's not what we say. That's what note 3 on the test report says.

Be that as it may, I did another retrofit this morning and the Brother works a treat.

Because of the lack of management and policing of the electrical industry, you will never know how screwed you would be until you sit in a court room and "all" your responsibilities would be exposed. It would take one proper court case with a knowledgeable person leading the investigation to cut you off at the toes, knees and then waist, one of the reasons I dont just sign off COC's unless I am cornered and even then I would still be put in a spot with the phrase "you should know better? I have been in this industry for many, many years and use to do everything by the book, because I havent specialised in one field, I still have a lot to learn. I work on sites and see how this industry is just falling apart day by day. the sad part is that it is not always the team member to blame, it just a lack of education and experience. The worse thing that happened to this industry was the introduction of semi skilled, companies just exploit them to the limit and beyond. Why pay an electrician rate when you can dump a eleconop 1 on site and wire up the building for a fraction of the price. There is such a massive skills shortage, thanks to the failed systems put in place to help train staff and encourage companies to improve the skill level. I might be talking crap, I am sure someone will correct and give details of successful programs not being looted.

We are just fortunate in this industry that nobody really gives a shit, the lack of policing which reflects on documents like the COC's being thrown around like till slips which hopefully fade in a couple months because nobody can find it or really gives a shit.

Making the customer responsible for the electrical installation, another nody badge for the clever person who came up with that bright idea

The responses on this platform are a good example of where the electrical industry is at present and where it is heading.

    I 100% agree !

I'm on a site now and got a guy who went to an apprentiship with the government and is waiting on his serial number for trade test. He has N5 in a few things but all he wants is to be handed money and won't do anything extra... And then he can't even undo a flood light off a wall and thought a 4mm cable would deliver to much power and blew the lamp... He is on his phone all the time as well taking a lot of selfies too. And does not ask any questions and does not follow them very well either...

He just expects I will wait for him when he is late all the time and my god he will take every second of lunch and ask for NEW ppe everyday...

There is a huge huge amount wrong in this country!

How I sort of see it now is I am going to try make money to save up for my overseas studies and then we duck...

Grass greaner where you water it but here the soil is concrete so no amount of watering can help...

I think I have finally got to that point, it is time to start scaling down and looking around. I am starting to regret not taking the opportunity to do a 2 year contract in Australia, all expenses, documentation sorted and relocation costs covered. If another opportunity pops up, there is a good chance that like many other smart people I would actually look into it.

Feedback from so many people who have left including half my family, You dont know how bad it is here until you go to a place were things just work, violence and discrimination, disfunction councils you name it are not a way of life . We just learn to accept things as normal.

I spoke to someone leaving in the next couple of days, when I asked him why he is leaving, he indicated that like me, I have never had the urge to leave because I believed there was hope for this shit hole at the ass end of Africa, but he went on holiday for a couple weeks, when he got home he started retrenching and selling everything, and will be gone by the end of the month.

So why does it matter that him and many others like him are leaving, consider this:

He owned a company which employed a bunch of people, will they find a new job, well you tell me.

He owned a company which used the services of small business like many of us on this platform, will we find new customers, I am sure we will.

He owned a house which employed a gardener and home executive. She has to find a new job which could mean she will have to travel to work everyday.

He sent his children to local schools and paid school fees, supporting those who dont.

He used and paid electricity, rates and taxes, supporting those who dont.

I could just go on and on and on and on.

I am sure there are people who would disagree with me, please feel free to set the record straight and inspire me to want to stay and share my knowledge and experience here rather than abroad

Difficult one. Nobody can convince you to either stay or go. You must decide. I know people that went and 6 months later they back. Alternatively I know millionaires and billionaires that could hop on the next plane out, but choose to stay. I know them personally, not hearsay.

I know a lot of Germans from Daimler Chrysler who love it here and when you ask them why, they say they enjoy the chaos. Genuine. They say life back in Germany is too ordinary and they enjoy the local chaos. For them, the chaos makes life challenging and they enjoy it.

Personally, even although it is abundantly clear that the stuff is gonna hit the fan harder and faster in the forseeable future, I aint going nowhere. We are looking at property in another province, but not leaving the country, still the most beautiful and diverse in the world.

Personal choice, my brother. Nobody can convince you either way.

That is 100% true too. My idea is to go there, get the little one citizenship in another country and then to also make lots of bucks and come back to buy a plot of land hahaha. To me the weather here and the outdoors is the best and I love cycling and dirt bikes and this country is one of the best for it
