    Re setting a prepaid meter

    Morning

During the last spate of load shedding, I was called out on a number of occasions for prepaid meters not switching on again after load shedding.

When this happens, the display is normal, showing the units available, but the internal contactor has not energised. Don't know why this happens.

Here is the solution without having to contact the supply authority.

On Conlog meters, type in the following code: 5649 3153 7254 5031 3471
For ALL other meter types, type in the following code: 0000 0000 0001 5099 7584

The above codes trip and reset the meter a couple of seconds later and the contactor will then energize.

The above scenario seems to occur more with Conlog meters as all these callouts have been to Conlog meters.

    Important:

Should the meter be of the type with a battery powered remote unit, the meter can still be tripped using the above codes, but it will not
switch on automatically after a few seconds. The code needs to be punched in a second time to switch the meter on again.
Make sure the batteries in the remote unit are good otherwise it ain't gonna work.

    Hope this helps.

A handy bit of info, thanks.

I see some of the prepaids venders are offering smart meters, have you you installed any of them, if so how smart are they ? Do they offer a daily total like the CBI and sonoff units?

By the way the crimper has busy with many 35 mm battery cables.
Comments are my opinion, unless regulations are attached to support the comment. This is social media, not a court room.

No. Vodacom apparantly have their own installers for the smart meters. Here they are using Hexing. No meter base. The meter itself is fixed to the wall with hilty's. No anti tamper mode. If the cover is removed, a tamper flag is sent to the service provider.

That meter has been tampered with. It's in tamper mode. A tamper coupon is required from the administrators of the meter. No other way.

The administrator of the meter will have the codes to set the tripping current.

What size is your main breaker ?

If it's a Municipal meter and there are more than one meter on the erf, then the tripping current is reduced by them.

                          Thanks

Only the administrator of the meter can assist with resetting a tamper.

Municipality, Eskom or private administering company, whichever is relevant.

Hi there. My prepaid electricity meters keypad is not working. Some keys don't work at all. Others when I press them all that comes up is an 8. I have been trying for a month to get eskom out to see if it can be repaired but I haven't heard back from a single person and I am running out of units and unable to put more in.

My box is a Landis+Gr, Sabre type 10-SA012, single phase. It shows a happy face. No error codes. The keypad just won't work. Any ideas on how to maybe fix it? Thanks.
