Smile Annual leave accrual rate - query on 17 days p.a.

    Hi,

I am having hassles in getting the right/final answer from a few people wrt the accrual rate.

My contract says that I am entitled to 17 days of annual leave per year.

How should the accrual rate/month be calculated?

    17 days/12 months = 1.42 accrual per month

    OR

standard 21.67 workings days per month/17 days as per my contract = 1.27 accrual per month?

    Many thanks

The strictly correct answer will be driven by the language of the employment contract. But this definitely doesn't work:

    12 x 1.27 = 15.24 leave days per annum.

Assuming the issue here is setting up a payroll program to accumulate annual leave on an ongoing basis, the correct approach is to take the annual leave quota and divide it by the number of times the payroll program will accumulate annual leave. If that is monthly, divide by 12. If it is weekly, divide by 52.

Strictly, it is an approximation anyway - the actual leave entitlement at any time is driven by the language of the contract and there may be subtle variations between contractual entitlement and payroll program calculated entitlement at times.

I suggest put in the start and end date, and the number of ordinary working days you will not be present for.
