The way I see it ... until I see appliances fitted with the new plug top ... I certainly will no be rushing out and installing them.

I fitted one of those silly plug tops to an appliance ...you know doing the right thing and all ... It didnt last long after cutting off the earth pin with the grinder ...it doesnt even fit in an extension 2 pin plug ... it got cut off and thrown in the bin.

I would like to see the persons house who came up with this ridiculous rule ... If anyone knows him ... please ask him to post pics of his own home and office so that we can all see how well it works.

I want to see all his appliances ... kettle ... toaster ... fridge ... deep freeze ... "modified" to fit the appliance which by the way makes your warranty void ... I was told by one biggest appliance distributors.

I agree that there was no need to stock them but the reg's have changed .
There is still no need to be the majority in stock.

If you read the complete reg it does allow for the " old type double sockets" to be installed side by side on the same circuit

6.15.1.1.1 Except where otherwise specified in this part of SANS 10142,
single-phase socket-outlets for general use (see also 6.14.1.4) shall
    a) be of the two-pole and earthing contact type,
    b) comply with SANS 164-0 and
    c) for new electrical installations each socket-outlet point shall include at least
one socket-outlet complying with the dimensions of SANS 164-2. Socketoutlet
points may also include socket-outlets complying with the
dimensions of SANS 164-1 in addition to SANS 164-2 socket-outlet.
NOTE Where socket-outlets are installed on the same circuit side by side, this
configuration could be considered one outlet point
    .
    d) For power skirting or trunking systems, each SANS 164-1 socket-outlet
should be installed with at least one adjacent SANS 164-2 socket-outlet.
