    Twin and earth stripped.

    Hi all
    Is it legal to strip twin and earth and use the conductors on their own without the outer covering if it is in conduit ?

    Peace out .. Derek

    Hi

    I don't see any reason why not if it is in a conduit and the regulations allow for solid strand as long as it does not exceed 2,5sqmm- Pasted what I see as the relevant regulation
    Would be an expensive and time consuming way of getting single wire

    6.3.2 Construction
    6.3.2.1 Conductors of nominal cross-sectional area exceeding 2,5 mm2 shall
    be stranded, except in the following cases, where solid conductors may be
    used:
    a) conductors of mineral-insulated metal-sheathed cables;
    b) internal connections of distribution boards, switchgear and industrial
    controlgear;
    c) busbars;
    d) aerial conductors;
    e) aluminium conductors of nominal cross-sectional area 16 mm2 or more;
    and
    f) copper conductors of nominal cross-sectional area 16 mm2 or less that are
    used in multicore cables.

    Thank you, brother.
    Busy with a house rewire. Have bought T&E for the job but there is one short conduit run where we are struggling to get T&E to co- operate, so I thought of stripping them to solve the problem, seeing that the wire has been purchased for this job. Just wasn't sure about the legality.

    Thanks once again, brother.
    Much appreciated.

    Peace out .. Derek.
