Heated towel rail/instant water heater in a bathroom

    Table 7.1

    Fixed appliances Zone 1 and 2 (A and B1)

A - earth leakage shall be provided

B1 - the equipment shall be enclosed in insulating material that is not possible to touch current carrying parts wit ha standard test finger.

No fixed appliances in Zone 0

What is the pipe feeding the shower and shower head is copper and its an instant water heater?

I have a situation where the instant water heater is in zone 1 but the pipe feeding the heater is copper and the tap is plastic ... would the inlet and outlet require bonding?

If the housing of the water heater is platic but but not IP rated?

A heated towel rail can be mounted in a shower in zone 1 of a shower or bath so long as the provisions of 7.1.4.4 (not an extra low voltage) aqnd table 1 comply?

    Hi Ian

If it's one of those imported Brazillian shower heads I strongly recommend that you check that the earth has not been disconnected on the unit itself or in the DB by some bright sparky in order to prevent the earth leakage from tripping.

The newer Speedheat units have sheathed elements so with them there's no problem.

I would bond the showerhead side of the plastic tap because it will now be "floating".

    My 2 cents worth.

    Peace out .. Derek.
