    How to insulate a ferrule

    Hi

I'm currently modifying a db and are required to extend some of the wires in the dB. I suppose bare solid copper ferrules will be the best option for the joints. What are the best option for insulation? A few twists of nitto tape or heatsshrink? Also are there any rules for the overlapping of the joint insulation?

The old fashion way to do it would be to use a ferrule (the right size) ...rubber tape then nitto tape ... the problem with using tape ... it gets gooooey ... you can use heat shrink ... just not sure of the rating for some of the crap sold to the industry ... it might pay to double layer or just buy a good brand like 3M.

I am busy upgrading a couple of DB's ... I am using 3 tier boards and installing din rail terminals blocks to terminate the short cables and where I cant fit terminal blocks ... I secure a Wago 221 mounting carriers to the side of the DB and clipping the 2/3 or 5 way 221 wago connectors ... quick and easy ... expensive but neat andsaves time.
Comments are based on opinion...not always facts....that's why people use an alias.

Wagos are a great option. With ferrules I use 2 layers of adhesive lined heat shrink but obviously this has to be slid onto the wire before crimping. For an existing ferrule you could use self-amalgamating tape but usually I'd just cut it off and re-ferrule with heat shrink.
