    Neutral impedance

    Good afternoon.
Can somebody please explain the new COC document with relation to neutral loop impedance and how are we to test for it??
I know how to test for the Earth loop impedance using the T1825 meter, but how do we test for neutral impedance?? Please help.
    Thanking you kindly

PEFC test will give you earth loop impedance, PSCC test will give you neutral loop impedance. On a TN-C-S or PME'd supply these test results should give identical results.

    Brother

What I do, using the same impedance tester as you, is to swap the earth and neutral leads. ie. connect the black lead to earth and the green lead to neutral.

You will then be doing a neutral impedance test, but as Andy said .... The readings should be identical.

Maybe some of the other toppies can comment.

    Peace out ... Derek

Came across 1 - New-Neutral-Loop-Impedance-Test-SANS-10142-1-Ed-3.pdf this article this morning and remembered the thread on Neutral impedance

NOTE 1 For this test using the same instrument as per 8.6.5.1, both the
neutral and earth clamps of the instrument will be connected onto the
    neutral conductor

  5. Thanks given for this post:

thats correct! Also have it like that did unit standards early this year where they also instrcuted us to do it in that manner.

I remember the thread on neutral impedance where I advised someone to swop the earth and neutral leads to get the neutral loop impedance.

    I was wrong.

    Please accept my humble apologies.

Connecting both the earth and neutral leads to the neutral is of course the correct method.

    Peace out .. Derekk

Yip us old people who look after our equipment ...dont keep up to date with the latest trends ... there is already a 1664 FC ... at only R482000.00 ... trying to justify that kind of outlay doing COC's at R600 could be a challenge

Ian. I still have an AVO meter that gets used regularly.

I also prefer an old analogue megger. Needle to the left .. good. Needle to the right .. bad.😆
