    Question Installing a gas hob

    Hi All

A client is changing their electric hob to a new gas hob.

The hob is supplied with a cabtyre lead and 3 pin plug for the striker operation.

The hob is on a centre island where there is no socket outlet to accomodate same.

Will it be acceptable to connect the hob to the existing stove circuit on the island ?

    Peace out .. Derek

Kinda curious how you did this in the end.

To my mind one question is whether the stove circuit will be powering anything else. If no, convert the circuit to a socket outlet circuit (with the appropriate changes in protection) and take care with the location of the socket outlet relative to the hob... done.

If the stove circuit is still powering the oven - things look a little more complicated.

    Hi Dave

I ended up installing a socket outlet on the island.
This was after consulting with a couple of the other local toppies.

Very carefully and with much patience, using a baby grinder I cut a groove in the grouting between the floor tiles big enough to accomodate 1,5mm T&E and ran it directly to the DB. Installed a 15A circuit breaker and labelled it " gas hob ". Re grouted and all was good.

Here's the thing now. If I used the lead and plug supplied on the hob then according to the gas guy it would not be compliant because of the socket outlet being too close to the hob. The new socket outlet was positioned 3 meters away and I replaced the cabtyre on the hob to reach the socket outlet.

I remember some time back a question being asked here on the forum regarding connecting an extractor fan to the stove circuit and the overwhelming concensus then was that it was acceptable, hence my question. Both an extractor fan and gas hob are supplied with cabtyre and a 3 pin plug. ( no difference ).

    Peace out ... Derek
