If you were using Thunderbird, I could help. They have a great Import/export tool, as an add-on, which allows you to export in a variety of formats. I'm sure that Outlook Express has something similar.

I think the problem is it's Outlook Express, which is a very lite version of the full Outlook email client.

I know it can be done - but not with an easy click-this-button type functionality I think. I'm going to look into it for murdock a bit later - if someone doesn't post a solution first.

Unfortunately I am not on my 2000 machine atm, so I cannot tell where to look, but express saves the mails as .eml files. So if you do a search for *.eml files it should point you to the folder it saves it in and then you can copy it where you like.

Chatmaster covered the part that I couldn't remember off the top of my head. Just in case your search draws a blank, the other trick is the folder (and file) might be hidden.

If you open My Documents > Tools > Folder Options
    click the View tab
select Show hidden files and folders

    And do the search again.

You can have a look at Microsoft's info on backing up and restoring Outlook Express. I don't think you will be able to view them outside of Outlook Express, but you will be able to back it up to CD/DVD and then restore it later if something did happen to go wrong.
