    Global warming

The strike against global warming was tops in the news over the weekend and more strikes are being planned world wide.
As global warming is a given fact and cannot be reversed, are these strikes and marches effective or just a waste of time?
Some people see global warming as a scam, but there are those who think that we can still save the planet.
    What is your view?

The temperature of the earth may be increasing over time (That can be measured and proven)

    Everything else is speculation.

Marches only serve to frustrate and annoy the man in the street and have no value.

    It can't?

Imagine if we had that attitude with the ozone layer issue.

Global warming is a fact, but what causes global warming? I am not a scientist or an expert, but common sense tells me that it is a cycle that the earth goes through and proof of that is past ice ages and climate changes over millenniums. It is not something that can be stopped or reversed.

In my view, overpopulation and the growing pollution caused by it is accelerating global warming. Too many people are competing for scarcer resources; from food to water and everything in between. Over population is not being addressed - why not? Is it too much of a political issue to be honest about it? As far as I know, China is the only country that has made any effort in reducing their total population. Most of the others are encouraging their citizens to breed like flies.

Yes, there is a "natural" cycle based on the orbit rhythms of the earth around the sun. The problem there is according to those rhythms we should be on our way into an ice age. Glaciers should be growing, not shrinking.

The most likely cause of climate going against the "normal megacycle" appears to be the levels of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere... something human activity has caused.

I totally agree. I have never been in favour of any protest marches as I am very much aware of the "rent a crowd" and other negative connotations. There are many avenues of making your views heard and it is OK for people to differ with you or for you to differ with them.
Global warming is poorly understood by most of these noisemakers who expect everyone but themselves to act to turn it around.
Well, the fact is IT CANNOT BE REVERSED! Global warming is a fact. What we can do is to educate people to live cleaner, not pollute the environment, not to cut and burn the forests (our green lungs) plant more trees and to not breed like flies. Global warming is not caused by people, but people are accelerating the effects of global warming by their waste and pollution.

This is a very powerful and valid message. Global warming cannot be reversed. It appears as if Greta Thunberg is being coached and groomed by unscrupulous people to advance their own causes.

A masterpiece in propaganda! Reminiscent of those establishment PSA's that used to denounce Rock and Roll music as a foul corrupter of vulnerable young minds back in the 1960s.

"Go back to school, little girl".
Yeah! That's the way to give a teenager pause for thought

Who is that message aimed at?
And who are the big funders of Friends of Science?

Who is Greta Thunberg? Yes, everyone knows who Greta Thunberg is, but have you heard of Boyan Slat?

Boyan Slat (27 July 1994) is a Dutch inventor and entrepreneur who creates technological solutions to global problems. He is the founder and CEO of The Ocean Cleanup; a Dutch foundation which develops advanced systems to rid world’s oceans of plastic. He is an engineering student drop-out who did not start useless marches and meetings, but actually did something to make this world a better place. Have a look at what he's doing https://theoceancleanup.com/

There are people who talk about doing and expect everyone else to chip in and then there are people who start doing and lead by example.
Now guess who will win the Nobel Prize?
