    SA Qualification Recognition

    Good Day

    I have the following qualifications

    Electrical Trade Test
    Wireman's licence [installation electrician's licence]
Electrical Engineering S4 Diploma [heavy current]

I would like to know if these are recognized and what are the equivalent qualifications in UK and USA.

Hi I am not so sure if I got your question right, however my assistance to you is that, if it's about recognition I would like to think it's best you find out from the state/ country where you want to present it but as for it's authenticity etc., you can verify your educational qualifications on the National Learners’ Records Database (NLRD) via SAQA VeriSearch at the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). https://www.gov.za/services/tertiary...qualifications

In the Uk you would have to do an exam to qualify to work as an electrician...i stand to be corrected but i think it is edition 18

not sure about the USA ...the voltage and systems are different.

Ians is correct Philiani, The UK system excepts SA qualified people, the version he is referring to is the 18th Edition - simply the rules and regulations Those are the regulations of the UK, they change on a yearly or bi - yearly system. They are what the SA regs are based on, its all the same stuff based on Ohms' law.
In reverse its a problem. I.E getting qualified overseas and coming to SA. So you are fine. Send me a PM should you wish to have contacts for work in the UK. I wish you luck. cheers. Neil

Just come back from the UK. The new 18th edition take effect from January the 1st. I haven't worked there in 7 years but there are whole load of new rules sand regs.

Apart from the cable colours being different (which has been the case for a long over 10 years - Brown, Black, Grey as the phase colours and Blue as neutral) the BS 7671 is far more complex than the SANS book. SANS 10147 may be based on UK regs book but the UK goes WAY more in depth.

Disconnection times are different, new rules on surge arrestors, new rules on arc detectors. A lot of things have changed in the last few years.

The UK heating systems are a bit more complex as well. They use instant gas boilers in domestics and even the controls for those are becoming more 'smart'

    They are very progressive.

Testing and Inspecting is almost a separate job - Testing and inspecting is a big thing - they actually do it properly.

A lot of the guys are saying check out "sparky ninja' on you tube for the new 18th edition updates.

Also health and safety is mental over there. All for health and safety but U.K. is next level.
