Socket oulet in a laundry room

    Hi all,

Is it allowed to install a socket outlet in a laundry room?

I have a socket outlet mounted in my laundry room at a hieght of 150cm from the ground.
They said, it can not be mounted on the same height as others because of water splashing, dripping, and and and.

I want to know if it is allowed.
    Otherwise they must remove it.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi

There is no regulation preventing the mounting of sockets in a laundry room - You need to plug in the wash machine to do the laundry

Be reasonable about the usage and positioning of the socket

In terms of the regulations it states that any socket within 2m of a water pipe must be on an earth leakage so in other words a normal socket is ok and a dedicated socket in not.

Although I am from Canada and have no experience in SA, I thought that I would jump in. I am not sure if your new regulations are in place yet but I think it says in 10142-1 (2017) any socket requires earth leakage protection (6.15 note) except ones for critical supply (6.7.5.5) If your general application of codes are similar to ours then I assume that if the sockets were installed under a previous code then the rules at that time would apply to its installation.

    Alright!
The positioning of our washing machine will be away from the socket outlet, say 1m away.
And only washing machine will be connected on that socket outlet.

Uhm! I suppose is on earth leakage. Is bridged to other socket outlets.

Yes! They are in place. There was a thread discussing new regulations.
    We are learning everyday.

Out of curiosity, at what height are the other socket outlets mounted at?

    They are at 50cm.
The kitchen socket outlets are between 130cm & 140cm.
Light swicthes I think is 150cm.

if you are concerned about the socket outlet...there are various option:

A weather proof socket in an enclosure or

an industrial type socket outlet with a lock ring (the blue 3 pins ones)

just a note...a washing machine is certainly not regarded as a critical application...and only a fool would consider not connecting earth leakage protection...however from my 38 years of experience in the electrical industry...anything is possible in Africa.
